All baled out and taken prisoner.
Shot down by S/Ldr J H Little in a 219 Sqn Beaufighter at
20.30 hrs 17th January 1941.
Crashed at Oakley Court, Bray, near Windsor.
One of the better known Luftwaffe crash sites in the UK, this
site has been visited many times over the past 25 years but
the precise point of impact could not be located. Small items
from the Dornier had been spread over many hundreds of yards
by nearly 70 years of continuous cultivation, thus disguising
the impact site. With the land now scheduled for gravel extraction,
permission was obtained from the new owners for one last attempt
to find any wreckage. After many hours of searching with deep-seeking
detectors the site was finally located. Although the engines
had been buried by the force of the crash, they had been salvaged
and ultimately only small fragments of the Dornier and its
engines were found.
